OVERVIEW:
– A legend associated with Alexander details him as being the only person to have solved the impossibly complex Gordian Knot, which he accomplished by slicing through it with his sword; a prophecy associated with the knot claimed that whoever was able to untie it would become the rightful king of Asia, a destiny that Alexander would eventually come to fulfill later in his life. Since then, the legend has been widely used as a metaphor for thinking outside the box, as well as solving an immensely difficult problem with one simple, decisive action. Thus, this Amalgam, which draws its name from the very king who created the Gordian Knot, can be seen as the direct manifestation of that legend; it is an ability which allows Marcus to summon from the annals of history the exact weapon that Alexander used to chop the knot in half, long since reforged in the fiery pits with Infernal metals taken straight from the Great Undercroft and given a warped, Demonic shape to reflect its new existence as the armament of a Demon. It is a highly exotic piece of equipment that is as long as Marcus is tall and combines elements seen in three different styles of blade: the gently curved cutting edge of the Japanese katana, the more pronounced curved back of the Persian shamshir, and a hand guard often seen in the European sabre.

On its own, Gordias is light as a feather to Marcus and can be skillfully swung around, either with one or both hands, with exceptional ease. Its otherworldly metallic composition also ensures maximum hardness and durability, allowing it to absorb and withstand even the strongest of blows without cracking or shattering, and Gordias’ length provides the wielder outstanding reach in melee combat. But Gordias itself is an artifact of legend—an abstract metaphor made physical, and thus its nature as a sword that cuts is different than other blades of its kind. Another legend associated with Alexander states that he often claimed his birth to be the divine will of Zeus, and thus owes his outstanding success as a king and a general to his godly lineage. This fable projects itself into Gordias in the form of an enchantment that bestows the sword with the raw power of lightning itself, supercharging the weapon with an impossibly high-yield electrical current until the entirety of its blade becomes wreathed in an ultra-thin layer of vibrating, extremely hot plasma energy. This amplifies Gordias’ cutting power exponentially by giving it the ability to flash-melt through nearly any substance it cuts into as though it were soft butter, thus allowing it to truly live up to its reputation as the weapon that helped Alexander solve one of history’s most confounding brain teasers.
