Doyle, Nick "Nicky"

Doyle, Nick "Nicky"
The underlying concept with Nick Doyle is that of camaraderie.
Nicky's a pureblood Irishman through and through. Born in a worse time in Belfast near the end of the Troubles, he's seen his fair share of shit rising up in a working class family; but all the while learned how to put a brave face on, grin, bear it, and just look forward to a cool pint of Guinness at the end of the day. Infact, for quite a while, he really looked forward to that cool pint of Guinness at the end of the day. One thing lead to another.
Twenty-something years later, and you're talking to the late thirties a minority shareholder in father-and-son run business, Doyle Breweries. Nicky Doyle has, from the nineties up to the present day, founded something of a rags-to-riches tale, coming from a deprived part of Belfast and ascending up the rungs of the social ladder, very much "new money". Something of a notorious Dublin and Belfast celebrity for his rash behaviour in younger life, the poster boy for Doyle stout made some bad decisions.
Six months ago, Paddy Doyle II, Nicky's late father, passed away, leaving him a majority share in the company - but Nicky showed no interest when Paddy was alive nor dead in taking on the Brewery, deferring the responsibility instead of running the multi-million enterprise to his younger brother Patrick III, and using his newfound riches, subtle Irish millionaire Nicky Doyle truly has the world as his oyster - escaping the public eye in Ireland, he now travels the world simply trying to assume a low profile, and not really doing much aside from chilling.
If each plot strand of Deus Mortuus was an individual story - not dissimilar from its actual existence - Nicky Doyle would be the narrator for each rag-tag band he runs into. A personable and cheery character with secret millions he hides from everyone, Doyle thought himself bored of life. But the narrator's tale has really only just begun...
