PERSONAL DETAILS
DESCRIPTION:
Pan Weilong is at heart a Chinese man. Unlike many Chinese officials his age, he wears the traditional garb of the old Chinese Imperial Age; flowing robes of the Han Dynasty grace his appearance, often colored black and red; the red symbolizing the nation he was born in. His hair is long and black, reaching down past his neck, and arranged in traditional chinese hair styles whenever out in public. When in private he lets it down over his body or sometimes ties it off in a tail to keep it out of his eyes and ears. His skin is as dark yellow as any Chinese man who spent most of his life working out in the sun, and his eyes are a fiery shade of green. His body is well toned and covered in muscle. When in Inferis he dons his own personal body armor, designed in the garb based upon the armor worn by the Imperial Han Generals, which flashes black and bears sigils calligraphied in red Mandarin script. He also sports an ungodly handsome mustache that forks past his lips in a noticably Oriental fashion.
PERSONALITY:
Again, Weilong is a Chinese man at heart. He follows traditions very closely. He often does not speak unless spoken to, and when he does choose to speak on his own he tends to speak in a voice that everyone listens to. He is a calculating individual, always planning ahead, always making guesses about what could happen in the future if he takes this specific route or walks down that specific road; what could happen if one chose the right fork instead of the left? That sort of thing. He is most like this around his fellow Templars or in office, and especially among the Dragon Order.
When angered, he does not express his anger in words. Rather, he expresses them in actions. Instead of choosing to shout his rage at an opponent for insulting them, he will merely regard them with cold disdain and instead walk away. Repeated offenses will sometimes be met with more stern looks. You know when he's really gotten mad when he's slapped you across the face and then refuses to acknowledge your existence ever again. That's when you should watch out; it's not wise to make upset the man who happens to be China's equivalent of a Kingpin...
At home, he appears visibly relaxed. Whenever he is in places of private he allows himself private reflection. This is when he can be at his most talkative; if you really want to have a discussion with Pan Weilong, wait for an invitation to his house. He can occasionally be what one would consider cheerful when he is allowed to relax, or perhaps one would better describe it as being more open with his feelings.
HISTORY:
Pan Xiang was born on June 5 1952 to a Chinese father and a Japanese/Mongolian mother. Born in a Communist country in the height of the Cold War, Pan Xiang had to endure a life of hardship almost from the start. Though his father was a wealthy man at the time, few liked his mother at all; born of two different nations symbolically enemies of China. His mother offered him a kindness that few ever could offer the young Pan Xiang, but that kindness would not last. Soon his mother would die of typhoid fever when he was 6 years old, leaving him and his younger brother of 3 alone with his father and aunt. His younger brother was sent away to live with relataives while he remained with his father for the rest of his short childhood.
Pan Xiang was unlucky enough to end up seeing perhaps the bloodiest years of the Vietnam War while he was only 9 years old. His father, a drug lord serving the Chinese Triad and owning business throughout Asia, took the young man with him on a trip while his aunt was ill and thus indisposed. He got to witness Vietcong Troops devastate an entire community while his father was still on business. It was the first time he would experience what war was like, and it wouldn't be the last. Young Pan Xiang also felt a deep pity for the Vietnamese people; a pity that would evolve into a drive and soon coalesce into a drive to help all the Asian nations soon after.
Throughout his life Pan Xiang was proven to be a smart boy, but his father never saw it. He was too busy dealing with his life in the criminal underworld and his attempts at keeping it a secret from the People's Republic of China. Pan Xiang grew up never having many friends and was alone for most of his life, but from that loneliness came a drive and a desire to do something with his life that would leave an impact that would be remembered. Of course, his dreams came crashing down when the leaders of the Triad set him up and officials uncovered his dad's secret life. Soon, both were forced to go on the run.
His father took him many places in order to escape the Chinese officials. Pan Xiang found himself taken all across Asia escaping law enforcement, from China to Mongolia, to Russia, down into Japan, both North and South Koreas, up through Vietnam and then back into China again before their smuggled plane was shot down over the Himalayas by the Indian Air Force. The plane crashed over the Tibet plateau, where his father died and the young Pan Xiang remained alive but badly injured. He was only 17.
Pan Xiang was found by a group of Tibet Monks who took him in. Now with nothing left, broken and dreamless, he sought the quiet life of a Tibetan Monk and learned the ways of Buddhism. It was in his time in the Monastery that he learned of China's ancient past and heritage, and he took a fascination in the ways of old, Imperial China and the Han Dynasty.
It was when the young monk became 21 that a salesman came into the nearby village, selling televisions and films from America. Having not seen a television since he was young, he managed to watch one of the films with one of the few villagers that owned a television and soon learned of the famous Bruce Lee. Fascinated by the man's martial prowess and his portrayal as a fighter for justice, a new spirit awoke within Pan Xiang; a desire to bring harmony back into the world. He came to a decision that fateful day; a decision that would ultimately change his life. He chose to end his life as a Tibetan Monk and begin one that would ultimately change the face of China and perhaps all of the Asian World itself. He ceased being Pan Xiang that day; he kept his surname Pan out of symbolism, after the great Pan Zhang, a general of the later Han Dynasty. Instead of Xiang, he became Weilong, the Guardian Dragon.
Leaving Tibet, Pan Weilong made his way across Asia, where he began to learn all he could of the Martial Arts from Kung Fu to Judo, from Jeet Kun Do to Nhat Nam. Along the way, he met up with many of his father's old contacts in the Triad. He formed his own gang, which later become an empire of its own within the underground criminal underworld. He would be accepted in the Triad, and later became its leader in a bloody coup that ended with only him left standing. His desire was to create a secret order that would slowly lead the world into a New World Order; through the use of Nature's Design (a way of life remarkably similar to Chaos Theory), he would bring the world into a state of harmony in which the corrupt orders of old; Socialism, Capitalism, Feudalism, Dictatorships; would be swept away in favor of an order through which Merit, Tradition, and Spiritual Harmony was king, and it would start with Asia. Over the course of almost 2 decades Pan Weilong created a powerful secret society known as the Dragon Lotus, and achieved Grand Master titles in over a dozen different martial arts.
It was then that he was approached by the Templars.
It was quite a surprise that the Templars approached a man who, on the outside, appeared to simply be a Martial Artist who was also a millionaire, but also was secretly the ruler of an undercover organization seeking for the better existence of the Asian World. The knowledge of a world of demons existing beyond his own world upset him greatly; if Inferis truly did exist, then its existence would potentially undermine all he and his organization stood for. Weilong agreed to join on the condition that he would be allowed to continue to lead his organization. The offer was accepted. It did not take long before the resourceful and strategical leader would make his way into the ranks of Paladin for the Templar Order.
Weilong has always considered himself to be 'more' than just Chinese. His experience in Vietnam, his time fleeing from authorities and witnessing different cultures and people in Russia, Mongolia, Japan, Korea, and his own China, has given him time to reflect that his desire to free the world of disharmony could not simply end with his home country. He has witnessed what Socialism was like firsthand in many different nations and knows that it is not a perfect system; too easily corrupted by individuals seeking power. He has also witnessed what life is like behind the scenes as the criminal underworld ruins the lives of hundreds through the selling of drugs, his own family ruined by his father's carelessness. And even now, as a Templar, he knows that the influence of demons is more than just a Chinese problem, if the tear in Hong Kong is proof enough. If he is to accomplish his dream, he must do so with the mindset of not just a Chinese man in a communist nation, but as an Asian as a whole. Though he stays true to the traditions of his people, he has done his best to learn the traditions and beliefs of the other Asian nations in his lifetime and hopes to do more in the future.
