OVERVIEW:
Various, documented eyewitness accounts on Blackbeard claim that he always went into battle fully strapped to the teeth in gear. Among his favorite weapons to carry into a fight were six, ornate flintlock pistols of Italian craftsmanship, which he looted from the Concord prior to transforming it into his almighty flagship, the Queen Anne’s Revenge. Originally intended to be a gift to a high-ranking British naval officer, he rescued them from the inevitable fate of acting as household decor and a lifetime spent gathering dust, and re-purposed them for more practical means. Despite his attachment to them, his nature as a pirate overshadowed this sentiment, resulting in him discarding nearly all of them during the last few battles of his life. These pistols were intended to be carried in sets of two, or “braces”, a feature that ultimately gives this Apparatus its name.

Deploying Three-Brace is as simple as activating the Sigil it is associated with; this manifests itself as an elaborate tattoo that spans across Teach's entire upper back and shoulder blades. Using his memories of the guns as a catalyst, the pirate is granted the ability to summon these weapons at will. Each gun is identical to the six he once possessed, and measure in at 50cm in length. They are fitted to accommodate a Queen Anne’s style flintlock mechanism, and each of the metal furnishings on the guns—including the flintlock itself—are crafted out of silver and engraved with elaborate scrollwork patterns, which are then set against a decorated, lacquered walnut stock. The insides of the barrels have been rifled to put spin to each shot discharged, improving projectile stability and their long range accuracy overall. Apart from that, the guns appear to be nothing more than standard flintlock pistols from every angle; even the ammunition they discharge are made of crudely processed iron.

However, Three-Brace’s reliability does not stem from the fact that it gives Teach a gun or two to use. Instead, it grants him the fearsome ability to summon an infinite supply of these unspectacular pistols; this ties in with the fact that, in spite of holding a sliver of personal attachment to them, they are still tools that can easily be replaced in the heat of battle. Reloading one of these archaic weapons, especially during a gunfight, makes keeping them on his person more detrimental than beneficial, so, keeping with that logic, each gun that Teach summons only has the capacity to hold two rounds apiece. By using one pistol to cover himself while throwing away an emptied gun so that he can conjure another one in its place, not only does it provide Teach with an ample source of equipment, but their expendable natures ultimately eliminates the need to reload altogether.
