PERSONAL DETAILS
DESCRIPTION:
Have you ever watched a black panther move? Because thats very similar to how Wei Qing prowls about. Her movements are smooth and graceful, no motion wasted, every single one has a purpose. There is a power behind the way that she moves, and yet its very slinky and like water. She stands at about 5'4" which is relatively normal for an asian woman, and weighs probably around 147 lbs. She may seem supple and fragile, but she will totally kick anyones ass. There is always a sassy sort of mirth behind her bright brown eyes, a little subtle smirk on her lips as she'll talk to anyone. Her hair is always cut short from a bob that hangs down to her jawline, or else its cut shorter in a sort of grown out pixie cut.
Her clothes on earth range depending on what she feels like. Normally she can be found in a red, 3/4 sleeve red collared shirt that is always tucked into her black tight fitting pants. She always includes a black belt that holds a pouch on the back. She also has clamps that form nice loops on either side of her hips that are short and rather subtle. Over her shirt she sometimes keeps black leather holsters for her two guns, but thats only when she's on a job that she has to have them for. And certainly never out into public because the police are generally a problem. Her black pants fit nice and tight to her leg before vanishing beneath black leather boots that flow nicely, giving her a sleek look. She also wears black leather gloves that barely affect her dexterity, adding another intimidation factor to her appearance. They have a short heel on them, nothing that she couldn't run and kick some ass in. Sometimes she'll be found in a red dress with either a dragon pattern on the right side with a black leather band about her neck. At that point she'll keep the black holsters with two straps on her thighs for either extra knives or an extra pistol.
When she's in Inferis, she ends up with a more militaristic sort of outfit. She has a short belly shirt thats black, the sleeves a tight fitted short sleeve sort of thing. She wears a kevlar vest, a slight collar on it with pouches to hold extra clips of things. She keeps her tight pants with the belt and pouch as well as the boots. Then she also has fingerless gloves that cover her hands instead. She may also wear a collared tight fitting red dress over the black pants and boots. She does also wear a belt about her waist with a black arm band about her left bicep. At least… if she hasn't reverted into her inferis morph.
PERSONALITY:
Wei Qing is a woman of many talents, and that is both to her benefit and destruction. She knows how to handle herself, she can hack pretty much anything, how to not be noticed, how to hide, the list goes on and on. She's a jack of all trades which is useful for the Firefly's, but it also proves useful for the Triads amongst other groups or individuals scattered either in Hong Kong or across the world. Such attention can potentially put a target on her back which is why she is also a super cautious person. She doesn't give out anything, or if she must it is always misleading that leads to a fail safe or some alias. She is well aware of the risks of doing what she does, and she is almost overly careful about it all.
But thats all with work. In general she is confident, and devoted to her boss, the Employer as well as their cause. Always moving, always traveling to stay one step ahead of everyone, she is an utter chameleon while maintaining her real self beneath it all. She may show hints of it here and there, but the paranoia of getting found is something that overrides everything. The few friends that she does maintain, they have their own way of communicating, understanding each others concerns of hiding from their various problems or issues. This isn't to say she's a recluse that doesn't go out of the house, or wears a disguise every time that she does. She's just very careful and tends to use different names, or no names at all if she can worm that into the situation. The only time she may wear a disguise is if she has to for any sort of Firefly work, or meetings with any gangs that may require her services.
For those that are close to her and can call her a friend, she is a playful person. But it is a mature sort of playfulness as opposed to childish and completely silly. She loves her witty banter, and playing a slight mindgame with them if the mood strikes her. She is also really a very laid back person that doesn't stress too much (but in reality is an EXTREMELY high stress person. She just hides it very well). Her spunk can get her in trouble, but most people find it to be rather endearing and, for lack of better phrasing, hot. They acknowledge that at any moment she could drop into some technological spew that they won't be able to keep up with and accept it. They just smile and nod. As for her? She tries not to, but it still happens. She rolls with the punches, and she always will keep a cool face on at the very least no matter how she's feeling. After all, to show weakness is to ask for the wolves to descend and circle you in Hong Kong. You can't afford to.
When she has a task, she is an utter and complete bloodhound. She will not stop until she has what she wants or has accomplished the task set before her. Whether its gathering a particular piece of information, or taking down a target, she will not stop. If she has to back off for a while, thats acceptable, but that doesn't mean that she's putting it down. There have been times where she suddenly showed up at someones door who thought that they were safe. That they had shaken her off. They quickly learned that they hadn't. And she isn't afraid to use any of the tools in the book to make it so. Torture, cruelty, playing sexy, interrogation, kindness... whatever is required she will do. On the flipside of this, she is a loyal individual who will NEVER abandon those that are left behind. And if she has to? It doesn't sit well with her at all. She is helpful and considerate of others to a fault, and she knows it. This makes her careful about how much she shows it, and who gets the most of her help (or how she gives her help).
In the end... you'll just have to find out who you are meeting that particular day.
DEMON PERSONALITY:
- HORNET:
- How he appears alone
Hornet was a cocky motherfucker in life, and that has not changed in death or Hell in the least. If anything, its only gotten worse. It's this odd sort of charm that made people befriend him easily in life despite this ego that he possessed. Perhaps it was because his ego existed in the fact that he knew he was probably one of the top hackers in the world (prided on the fact that secret government agencies were hunting him or secretly employed his skills when they needed to). Other hackers were either jealous, or admired his skills. For while he was full of himself, he didn't necessarily beat them over the head with his superiority to them.
So with Wei Qing, he's actually quite calm and analytical in combat situations. He helps her calculate velocity, probability, etc to ensure whether or not she can actually DO something and have it work. Even when she's working on a fresh hacking program or doing such things, he's also rather helpful. Though at that point he might throw in the occasional snarky or smart alec comment here and there. It isn't meant to be demeaning, just giving Wei Qing a hard time. They are sort of like close friends and coworkers, and yet... competitors rolled all into one package. Its very strange, complicated, and yet extremely simple.
He was also of a similar age to Wei Qing when he died so they are somewhat peers within her mind. He understands what she's going through and so he helps her. Maybe he likes her or something, he doesn't fucking no. Nor will he ever say. He can be rather secretive and dodge questions she might have of him, such as how old he is. Or where he used to be from when on Earth. For in Inferis, he fell between Legion and Lucifer's realms of influence. For he was Pride, but his constant consumption of knowledge made him close to that Archdemon (in terms of realm. He's never actually met either of them).
He's a person that only Wei Qing has had a chance to really get to know aside from those that used to know him in life (the real him). In the end they compliment and help each other. And they definitely use the other for something so its a mutually beneficial relationship.
HISTORY:
- From Child to Adulthood:
- It was a quiet life on the streets-- No no... that wasn't right at all. The streets were never quiet in Hong Kong. There were always cars going by, voices shouting and talking out in the dark of night beneath the street lamps and neon glow. Drinks were always poured, and the trash poured out into the street. It was a beautiful, disgusting city a gem of two civilazations that had clashed and merged together in that place.
Wei Qing was no different. A child of China and a child of America, she was born and promptly forgotten to the streets. She never knew her parents, and she didn't care to. They had abandoned her for reasons that she will never know. Maybe it was so that she WOULD have a chance to live. Maybe it was because they just didn't want her. Whatever the reason, she used to care when she was still a tiny child. She used to dream and hope that they would come for her. That they would try to find her. Instead it was just some grandma who had an orphanage. Well... if you could call that shithole an orphanage. There were a bunch of street urchins like her that ran wild, doing whatever it was that they wanted to during the day.
She learned to steal, how to beg for scraps, how to hide, and how the hell to get away when you needed to. She learned who was safe to talk to, and who wasn't. At the end of the day, they kept some of their stolen money for themselves, and the rest? They gave to that granny because at the end of the day, it was her that they had to tahnk for being alive. She fed them, gave them a roof over their heads, and some of the kids even had homes that they got to go to! She taught them how to read and write, trying to give them some semblance of a schooling so that they could hopefully grow up into members of society that could function. Wei Qing did better than most.
When she was 9 she began to wander around the streets in wider circles, starting to risk spending her time in internet cafes and the like, learning how these newfangled tech worked. It was easy. It was natural. It was... awesome. She had never encountered something that had fit so well with her! Like a glove really. But... because of her wider range of exploration, she caught the attention of some not so savory individuals (as some would say). Namely, the Triads noticed her. They could always use fresh kids to do their listening for them, or various errands. After all, in a city full of street rats? Who would notice another? She could get lost amongst them all, and she could prove useful.
When the man first approached her, she didn't know what to think. She had been sitting in an alleyway munching on some stolen chasu-bao (steamed roast pork bun) when a handsome man in an expensive suit walked up to her. She knew right off the bat that he was someone she had to watch herself around. He asked her her name, she answered him with a fake one. But he knew that it was fake, she could see it in his eyes! He didn't correct her though, and instead invited her to come with him. Was he like the people that granny gave the other kids to? Either way, she could feel in her gut that she should, and shouldn't, follow this man. In the end, she did.
They trained her, filled in the gaps in her education where she would need it. Her already acrobatic and athletic nature was increased, teaching her how to fight and use various weapons. Namely pistols, knives, and her fists. She was a natural. They were pleased with this little investment that her keeper had found. His name was simply Chen. Mr. Chen. They had her go on little missions, small time things that weren't too high risk, but equally as important as others. They saw the potential that she had. These were the next 4 years of her life.
It was in the 5th year that they discovered her aptitude towards computers. So Mr. Chen gave her a couple of programming language books (C++ and Java to start with) for her to read through, telling her that it was her new homework. Wei Qing didn't really know how to take that, but she still read them. Her knowledge began to grow, and she was tested on her knowledge shortly thereafter. The boys in the tech department watched her as she easily whizzed right through the test they had prepared for her, and all were rather stunned. Mr. Chen's higher ups were again intrigued by this urchin that they had found on the street. More books were procured, and she was left more with the IT boys. She had found a niche that suited her perfectly.
She was sixteen now, and had been steadily given greater jobs with increased difficulty, some of which included hacking. She was a tech field agent that could still take down a group of men and kill them without a seconds thought. To her? This life was normal. She didn't know of any other way to exist, and her only friends were any other urchins that the Triads had taken in, or the gang members she was exposed to. By now her body was starting to fill out, revealing just how good her genetics were. The men of the gang took notice, and at this point? Mr. Chen wasn't her guardian anymore. She was old enough to operate on her own without him taking care of her all the time. When she found that out, it made her a bit sad, but he reminded her with a smile that they still belonged to the same, greater family. It gave her comfort, and so she looked forward to working more with the gang.
The problem... was that while she was used to seeing blood and someone getting the shit beaten out of them, she still had this naivte to her psyche. The Summer season had just been settling in, and Wei Qing had been invited by a couple of the other members to join them on this raid of a place. There were only three of them, and they needed a fourth to help them with it. They were higher up on the totem pole than her, and so she assumed she had to go, that they needed her help. She did. Well, she got to the warehouse.... and was promptly knocked out. She was bound to a bed, gagged, and left in a room with a single lightbulb in it. She... didn't leave for a couple of days... I don't think I need to tell you what happened over the course of that time.
When she was tossed out after the second day into the park with her clothes torn and bruises on her skin... she was changed. Her nerves were shot for a while, and she limped home to the ratty little apartment that the urchins still lived in together. Mr. Chen was on the floor above them. He was there when she came home with a blank look in her eyes and tears streaming down her face. He immediately took her in without a single question as to what happened and helped her clean up. When it came to taking off her clothes she flinched away from him and so he pulled back. He let her take her time and wordlessly worked around her fears. He placed clean clothes for her on the bed and left the room, telling her to take a bath and change. She had to take a few moments, the memory of their hands and smirks, the laughs and the grunts fresh and angry in her mind, body, and soul. She certainly didn't have any naivte left in her after that.
She quietly left the room and cleaned herself, wincing and whimpering in pain as she smoothed soap over the various bruises and cuts. She was dirty. She was hurting. And she now didn't like the very family that had taken care of her for seven years of her life. When she finally came out of the bath in those oversized clean clothes, she walked into Mr. Chen's living room and stood there in the doorway, his eyes resting upon her. It was then that she noticed how weary and sad they were, and so she silently went to the couch and sat down next to him. He would not hurt her. So they sat there quietly watching the television, Mr. Chen only leaving to walk over to the kitchen to make them some dinner. He never did ask her what happened, but he told her to stay with him from now on.
He directed only technology related jobs to her for the next couple of months, bringing her a nice desktop from which to work from. She didn't mind staying there in that cramped apartment with the smell of cigarettes in the air, and the man that was 14 years older than her. She healed in that place, she was reborn there. That was also the place where her hacking persona was born, and she blossomed into that world. She called herself butterfly from a conversation that she had had with Mr. Chen, and it stuck forever with her after that.
In the end she lived with the man she trusted for two more years, growing still in those next two years into her adulthood.
- Adulthood to Now:
- She was 18 now, and had fully recovered from that event that had broken her away from the world. She withdrew from the Triads on friendly terms, and continued to focus solely on her hacking work. She found a new apartment not far from where Mr. Chen lived, and lived on her own with money that she had saved up over those past two years. She began to make new friends, some of which were other hackers that were nearby. Others were people who lived in far off countries.
She was a far more cautious person than before, and from here that her worry about being found was born. She still did contract work for the Triads amongst other groups, but she didn't formally join them at all. She was far more comfortable working on her own. So for the next year or so she survived on her own, her name growing more and more known in the hacker circles. This was also when other organizations such as the CIA and others began to notice her presence. She started collecting information, taking what she wanted and erasing the traces leading back to her. This is also when she began to focus on building her own programs as well as upgrading her computers on her own. She was soon placed alongside other top hackers in the world, known in their own community, but only whispered on the rest of the internet.
She and David (Mr. Chen) continued to see each other during this time, and when she was 20 she began to realize something that made him so very different from anyone else in her life. That, and also one of the dinners they had together.... well... it turned into something greater than a friendship. They became lovers. She didn't care that he was so much older than her. He knew her. He had been there for her whenever she needed him most, and he had saved her life more than once. She... loved him. And so her life grew and only got better.
They dated each other for two years, Wei Qing occasionally going out into the field with him to help take down some assholes (though usually she was the one hacking security cams and whatnot). They made an amazing team! They really did. It was like life had normalized and.. it would all be alright. So when a drunk driver hit and put him in critical condition at the hospital the night of their 3 year anniversary? She stayed with him the whole night, but they both knew. The doctors tried to smile and lie, but she could see there was no saving him. He woke up once, and.... when he just... stopped.... She doesn't really remember what happened. What she did know was that a voice spoke to her amidst delirium and sleep. A voice that called her by her hacker handle, Butterfly.
He called himself, "Hornet." He met her amidst a barren field beneath a blood red sky, black clouds swirling overhead as he beckoned her to come closer. He had tendrils of purple light coming out of a gadget on his one shoulder, his dark skin and red hair immediately making him not human. He talked to her, whispered to her, offered to help her. She only could stare at him with furrowed brows and confusion, how in the world could he help her? What the fuck did she have left in the world? "David would not want you to stop just because he has. I can give you the fuckers that killed him, and so much more."
The words startled her. They stood there beneath those ominous clouds, in a place that couldn't possibly be earth, and he said the simplest words that she knew to be true. David... wouldn't want her like this. She suddenly awoke with a gasp in her hospital bed, startling a nurse who had been tending to her. She hadn't realized that she had been in a state of madness for a week in the hospital, having to be taken care of and pretty much sedated every time she woke up. But it was done. She had made a deal with a demon, and the gaping hole that had been left within her was now filled by something, and someone, new. Hornet told her about Inferis, about how things were in the afterlife. He gave her information on new shortcuts, taught her fresh tricks to use to make her a better hacker.
At the age of 26, she was contacted by a person who called themselves "The Employer." She had no idea who he was, and when she tried to dig deeper, she didn't find anything. He told her that he was in charge of a group called "Firefly," a group comprised of Ritualists that hid behind the scenes and kept out of sight. This intrigued her. Apparently he needed a lieutenant, and a hacker of incomparable skill. Both her and Hornet were rather intrigued at this obvious stroke to their egos. In the end, she agreed to it, and for the past two years has been dutifully serving the Employer and Firefly.

Re: Wong, Wei Qing
QUERY
How does she speak binary? Does she simply do so out loud by going "11010101011011101101"? Or is it for binary-based communications whilst actually at a computer? Whichever it is, if you could clarify that would be great.
Either way - she's great, Vi, a perfect candidate for exactly what I had in mind. Very well done. ^_^
